A couple of days after I got back from PAXEast this year I started have significant pain in my lower chest area. Concerned about this I went to my doctor to take a look and see what was going on. We went through a series of tests that asked for other tests that beget other tests to come to a somewhat final diagnosis I received yesterday.

I have cancer. Specifically liver cancer. More specifically Adinocarcinoma of Unknown Origin. It is currently classified as Stage 3 meaning it covers a significant portion of my liver but does not look like it has jumped to other organs yet. I have some additional testing to be done and blood work to come back so they can try to determine the origin of the cancer as cancers starting in the liver is relatively rare. This probably change the classification and help me to determine the course of treatment I may take. Most likely I am looking at chemotherapy but there may be the possibility to get into some clinical trials because of the cancer type, my age, and that I have never had any other significant issues with my body before this.

One of the good things about this is that we are looking at treatments to reduce and put the cancer in remission. It is life threatening but I have options. I also know that the science around the treatments of cancer have advanced significantly. All of these things give me comfort to know that I am going to beat this back and be around for a long time to come.

SOPA and PIPA – Just say NO!

January 18th, 2012 Posted in: News, Observations on Technology, Personal

All articles on this site have been pulled in support of the January 18th blackout to protest SOPA and PIPA legislation in the United States. It will stay offline until SOPA and PIPA are officially killed/vetoed. Nothing I have to say is more important than you as a reader educating yourself as to why this legislation would be devastating for the Internet in the US.
